I feel extremely privileged to be where I am today, and know it is my duty to do what I can to help others.
The Ivory Coast is in a terrible situation, with recent fighting killing hundreds of people and forcing nearly 50,000 people to flee their homes.
People are suffering and dying in Africa, children are being orphaned. That’s why I am speaking up about this, to make more people aware, to make more people help.
After building my new home in Togo, I decided to hand it over to 100 orphans. This is part of my Ivoire Sport Promotion foundation. This big house was supposed to be for me, but I have a lot of homes, so I’m going to give this one to the orphans. I can’t bring their parents back, but I want to pay their school fees and help them have a better life. For me, helping people is normal.
Updated 12 September 2011:
I have recently returned from Sokode, just North of Togo to see how the various projects are proceeding.
We are rebuilding a school for xxx children, making it modern, bright and welcoming. Helping give the kids the best start in life they can possibly get.
We are also in the process of building 2 brand new hospitals. I am hoping these new facilities will improve the chances of recovery for the patients and make their stay in hospital more comfortable.
I was also part of Michael Essien’s ‘Promote Piece in Africa’ campaign- a cause very close to my heart and it was an honour to be part of this worthwhile cause.
Please see the photos page for pictures of the trips.
I’m only helping a few, but we need to be helping thousands. It’s the least I can do.
